Pokemon Black / White

These are my second-favorite Pokemon games in the series, as well as my first ever played. I remember it like it was yesterday, my Kirby fixation fading because I had just beaten Kirby Triple Deluxe (the only kirby game I had access to) and asking my brother if I could borrow his Pokemon Black copy, even if it meant deleting his save data. He let me borrow it, letting me play pokemon Black up until near the end, where I was utterly stumped because of my game strategy failing me — that strat being attempting to solo the entire game with my Serperior and Simipour.

Needless to say, that... didn't work. The elite four beat my ass so much that I didn't get to see the epic climax until my second attempt at playing the game. Eventually, I gave up after numerous elite four attempts and started a new save. This attempt was halted by my 3DS getting stolen, me not taking another shot at the game until I got another 3DS and another copy of Pokemon Black. But, I learned something mind boggling in my third attempt — you can grind to level up your Pokemon. I also did not know that you didn't need extra space in your party to catch Pokemon. While I was still terrible at team building, I managed to actually grind my Pokemon and beat the game with a team full of cute grass types.

this is the team i roughly remember beating the game with. if u even care

Now, maybe sharing the story of me actually playing the game was irrelevant to my opinions on the game, but still, it's funny to me and I can do what I want forever. My opinions on Black and White may be biased due to the fact they're literally my first ever pokemon games, but they are nothing short of fantastic. The story was good to the point of me being slightly dissapointed by the lack of story in most other Pokemon games except B2W2 and SM — not that I dislike the barebones story of other pokemon games, they're still fun! Pokemon Black and White just touched my heart especially with its themes on family as well as having the evil team pose a serious question about the dynamics between Pokemon and trainers. N is also the most interesting antagonists in the Pokemon series with his motives being inherently unselfish, as he cares about Pokemon first and foremost — unlike most members of his own team. He is easily my favorite human character in the Pokemon franchise.
The Music
Pokemon Black and White has one of my favorite video game OST's of all time. Given that it was a fresh reboot of the series, the music shines accordingly. Here's some of my favorite tracks in this game.
Nacrene City

This is the first theme in the OST that really made me think "Wow, this game has an amazing sound track." The theme exudes a feeling of a city for romantic artists. The patio with an accordion player is a nice touch. Nacrene city is also home to the museum, which is secretly also a gym.
Anville Town

I straight up forgot to write a description for this one lmao but I like Anville Towns' theme and I'm going to continue writing this later. Trust.
Opelucid City

Black
As a kid, I didn't really like this version of the theme because this is the only track in the game to where you need to be near an NPC to hear the melody at all. Without the keytar, it sounded like a bunch of noise to me. However, once I looked up the theme on YouTube, what I didn't expect to learn is that not only does Opelucid City's Black theme has a melody, but it's the exact same melody as the White version! Only with a wildly different arrangement and instrumentation to reflect Black's cyber theming. An amazing town theme, but not as good as White's version.
White
Opelucid City has the nickname "Time's Dividing Line" in both games, which is reflected by the Black version having a futuristic appearance and the White version having a more ancient feeling. I usually prefer futuristic aesthetics, but... I love White's version of the town more. Something about quaint old-timey towns in games gives a cozy feeling to me, such as DPPt's Eterna City and the entirety of Pokemon Legends Arceus. I also think that theming is more fitting for the town in general, given that you learn about the legend of Reshiram and Zekrom in this town. The song is also just... beautiful. No other word can be used to describe it.
Route 10

I tried listening to the theme before embedding without crying and failed. This theme perfectly encapsulates the fact you are nearing the end of your journey as a trainer. You've fought all eight gym leaders in Unova, but what's next? Will the King of Team Plasma become champion before you, or the rest of your rivals? Only time can tell you.
In Pokemon Black 2 / White 2, Route 10 as well as its theme is completely absent due to the damage of Team Plasma's seige of the Pokemon League. Makes me sad.
This page is unfinished. I have a lot more to say, but I'll get to it when I get to it, KK?
